2014 Photography Show

2014 Photography Show
I have been the chairperson for my local art center's photography show for 2 years now. I submitted 11 images this year and these 8 were accepted by our 3 judges. Sadly I didn't place with any of them but they are for sure a few of my favorites from this past year, with the exception of the hot air balloons I did that a few years ago. I had some tough competition for sure, there were so many beautiful entries. I was excited that my daughter placed in the "Faces" category. Win or lose I will continue on and hope to get better and better with my photography. Thanks to all of you for your input and comments.

Bridges, trestles and piers

I am not sure what my attraction to bridges, trestles and piers might be, my only guess would be that I love leading lines in pictures. Here are a few shots from my travels around California.

Pick Just One.................

Pick Just One
I am on several photography groups and was just recently asked to pick my favorite picture. Geez I had no idea how hard that would be.  Well I picked this one. This picture to me represented a bucket list thing of  mine "Must get Pictures". I love animals, whales, sea life etc. I was fortunate enough to return to Alaska in 2013 and while in Juneau we headed out whale watching. I jokingly told my friend "Yeah I just want to see a breaching whale" well my wish (bucket list) came true, while out our Captain and crew spotted a mother and baby humpback whale, this baby appeared to be having recess after a long school day, she kept breaching and rolling and slapping the water. WOW!! I also had the camera gear I needed to get the shots, in the back of my mind the whole time I was out there, "please be in focus". I got so many great shots that day of this baby. When I returned home and really started going through all my images I sent this one to the crew because while on board the naturalist told me if I got any good ones she would love to see them. Well after doing that I was contacted that they wanted to add this image of this baby to the Juneau Registry of whales for identification! I was thrilled to provide the image. So this at the moment is my favorite picture.

Churches

Churches
I really never realized I had so many church shots until I started writing this blog entry. I just love the architecture, it is truly art to me, from the simple to the very ornate. So here are a few shots that I have gotten in my travels.

Night Photography

Night Photography
Night photography as always been a challenge and interesting to me. Here are a few shots of long exposures at night.  I have always loved lights and lighting so I think that might be my attraction to this type of photography.

Boats

~~~~~~~~Boats~~~~~~~~
I really never realized how many boat shots I had until today. While editing a few images from Alaska I started looking back at some of the boat shots I had. These were taken in Alaska, New England and the California Delta.
Lodi, California
Lodi, California
I moved to Lodi in January and am always looking for new places to go shooting. I also have designed 2 sets of postcards to put at my local merchants for sale. This is set number 2 that I just got back from the printers. I have been able to capture some sunsets and also our local celebrities the Sandhill Cranes. I have posted before about the cranes but with living so close I now can go visit them several times a year while they are here. The farmers around us will flood their fields for the cranes and other birds. It is quite a site to see hundreds of them flying in.
